Abay Bank Launches Pre-Paid Visa Card for Seamless Global Payments

Abay Bank, in partnership with Visa Inc., a global leader in digital payments, has officially introduced the Abay Classic International Pre-Paid Visa Card, a service designed to empower customers, to make secure global payments without the need to carry cash.

The vibrant launch ceremony, held at Abay Bank Headquarters in Addis Ababa, was graced by the Bank’s Senior Management, and other distinguished guests.

Speaking at the event, Ato Yehuala Gessesse, Chief Executive Officer of Abay Bank, highlighted that the Abay Classic Visa Card enables customers to transfer funds and make payments at ATMs and Point-of-Sale (POS) machines worldwide. He further noted that the card facilitates online e-commerce transactions, underscoring Abay Bank’s commitment to advancing digital financial services (DFS) and simplifying everyday life. The card is tailored to meet diverse needs from business owners transacting with international suppliers, to young professionals accessing global digital platforms, and travelers making cross-border payments.

Ato Yared Endale, Cluster Head for Eastern Africa and Country Manager of Visa Ethiopia, emphasized that digital transformation is a key driver of economic growth. He noted that Visa has established local operations in Ethiopia- one of 10 offices across Africa- to strengthen the financial ecosystem and promote inclusive, equitable, and sustainable economic growth. He added that the partnership with Abay Bank will broaden access to international financial services, enabling individuals to fully participate in the global economy.

Today, Abay Bank offers a wide range of digital services through 370 ATMs, 400 POS machines, and robust internet and mobile banking platforms. The launch of Abay Classic Visa Card marks another milestone in strengthening Ethiopia’s financial ecosystem, providing customers with a simple, secure, and convenient way to transact globally.
