Africa Fintech Summit Opens Nominations for Excellence in Fintech Awards – African Media Agency

The Africa Fintech Summit (AFTS) has officially opened nominations for the 2024 Excellence in Fintech Awards, set to be held during the 12th edition of the summit in Nairobi, Kenya, from September 4-6, 2024.

Since its inception in 2018, AFTS has established itself as Africa’s leading fintech event, where innovative ideas are exchanged, partnerships are forged, and investments are secured to advance the continent’s fintech sector. The summit hosts two major events each year: one in Washington DC and another in an African city.

The summit’s diverse programme includes expert panels, networking opportunities, startup showcases, and ecosystem tours. The Excellence in Fintech Awards are a key feature, recognising exceptional fintech startups that address critical challenges for people in Africa, the African diaspora, and beyond.

Africa’s fintech sector has experienced rapid growth over the past decade, with increased funding, innovative solutions in payments and banking, and widespread adoption of fintech technologies. This surge has produced a new generation of African fintech leaders gaining global acclaim.

Noteworthy examples include Kenya’s M-KOPA, named on the TIME100 Most Influential Companies list for the second consecutive year, and companies like Flutterwave, Piggyvest, Kuda, MTN, Bank Zero, Palmpay, and Yoco, all featured on CNBC’s 2024 Top 250 Fintech Companies list. The Excellence in Fintech Awards aim to celebrate African fintech startups and ecosystem enablers for their innovative products, initiatives, and industry contributions.

This year, we invite the public to nominate standout startups and ecosystem enablers across various categories, including Fintech of the Year, Bank of the Year, Excellence in Digital Banking, Excellence in Payments, Excellence in Remittances, and more.

The award ceremony will be a highlight of #AFTSNairobi2024 (September 4-6), hosted at the prestigious JW Marriott. The three-day summit will feature a VIP dinner, in-depth expert panels and keynotes on Africa-focused fintech themes, the AlphaExpo Micro-Accelerator and Pitch Competition, and tours of Kenya’s dynamic tech ecosystem, making it the largest gathering of African fintech stakeholders to date.
