Capitec Listed Amoung 2014 Global Growth Companies

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has named Capitec Bank as one of Africa’s 16 most dynamic Global Growth Companies (GGCs). Capitec Bank, South Africa’s leading retail bank for individuals, was the only bank in South Africa to make the list, which includes just 6 South African companies from various sectors.

Commenting on the World Economic Forum’s GGC award, Charl Nel, head of Communications at Capitec Bank, says: “We are very proud to be recognised for our pioneering business model and practices by such an esteemed global organisation such as the World Economic Forum.” He continues to say that, “we rate this achievement as highly as our inclusion in Credit Suisse’s ’27 Great Brands of Tomorrow’ report 4 years ago. It’s refreshing to see that our efforts to continue providing our clients with a simplified and transparent banking experience are receiving global recognition.”

Companies on the GGC list are considered by the forum as trailblazers, shapers and innovators that are committed to improving the state of the world and are nominated on the strength of their ability to become future global leaders.

The 16 nominated African GGCs represent a broad cross-section of industrial sectors, and have all exceeded industry standards in revenue growth, promotion of innovative business practices and demonstration of leadership in corporate citizenship, according to the World Economic Forum.

The WEF invites nominations from its network of media leaders, existing GGCs, forum members and partners, faculty members and the general public. Candidates are then evaluated by the forum and a selection committee composed of regional business experts. The semi-finalists are then measured against the following themes: growth, impact and global corporate citizenship.

“The World Economic Forum is proud to recognise these 16 champions that are at the forefront of driving responsible economic growth, job creation and entrepreneurism in Africa,” said David Aikman, managing director and head of New Champions at the World Economic Forum.

Each of the recognised companies are invited to attend the annual WEF meeting in Abuja where they will be working with the region’s leaders to look at ways where they can foster inclusive, sustainable growth in the region.
