Centenary Bank and UMEME Limited today announced a partnership which will enable subscribers to the bank’s CenteMobile banking platform prepay their power bills instantly using their mobile phones and without any charges levied.
Speaking about the partnership, Fabian Kasi, the Centenary Bank Managing Director commended UMEME Limited for complementing the Bank’s strategy of using technology to provide appropriate financial services to all people in Uganda, ‘the partnership is very timely, right when the bank is embracing the e-direction for most of our services. This arrangement will potentially give our customers access to the most innovative and convenient way of power bills settlement.’
To pay UMEME bills, customers with Centenary Bank accounts have the option of either dialing *211# and following prompts through CenteMobile, or settling their bills across the counter. Centenary Bank launched the innovative mobile Banking platform last year.
The UMEME Limited Chairman Mr. Patrick Bitature thanked Centenary Bank for partnering with Umeme to improve customer experience and giving Umeme access to its network of branches, ‘We are constantly looking for partners and we are constantly employing the latest and best technology to enable visible customer improvements … CenteMobile gives Umeme a strong, reputable and reliable partner we can work with to deliver convenience to our customers.’
CenteMobile also allows signed up customers to access services such as the transfer of funds from their Centenary Bank account to another Centenary Bank account, monitor and check their account balance, request for mini-statements, purchase airtime and pay other utility bills.
Mobile banking is increasingly becoming a more-relevant and efficient way to grow banking services; with the 24/7 accessibility and convenience, over 8.9 million out of 15 million mobile phone users in Uganda, access financial services on phone with the number growing by the day.
