Colruyt Group’s Online Stores to Begin with Mobile Payment

From September onwards, customers can pay their purchases on the online stores of Collishop, Dreamland and Dreambaby using their smart phone, regardless of their bank. Quick, easy and safe mobile payment will also be possible in Colruyt Group’s physical stores in 2015. The group opted for the SEQR application by the Swedish company Seamless. They made this choice because of the low transaction costs and high ease of use. To complete the online transactions, the group employs Ingenico Payment Services, leading global digital payment service provider.

Quick and easy
The customer downloads the SEQR app for free via the App Store or Google Play and – only required once- links it to his/her Seamless direct debit. The customer thus grants SEQR permission to charge the owed sums to his/her bank account via direct debit, regardless of the customer’s bank.

This method of payment is mainly fast and easy to use by the customer. To pay, he/she only needs to scan the QR code or tap the NFC on the computer screen, laptop, tablet or store register. He/she confirms the sum by entering a pin number and does not require a card or card reader. SEQR guarantees the payment to the seller the day after the transaction. Another benefit is that the client also gains a handy overview of his/her payments through the app.

Potential
Colruyt Group tested the app thoroughly and, after positive feedback, decided to offer the mobile payment method on the Collishop, Dreamland and Dreambaby online stores. In the first half of 2015, the physical stores of Colruyt, OKay, Bio-Planet, Spar Retail, Dreamland and Dreambaby will follow suit.

Project manager Michel Van Mello: ‘In a primary phase, we use the application as a mobile payment method, but the potential is much bigger. For instance, companies can also link promotions, discount cards, customer cards or vouchers to the app. If this happens en mass, you could, in time, go shopping bringing only your smart phone and leave that fat wallet with cash, payment cards and customer cards at home. We are convinced that soon a large number of banks and companies will join; which is why we want to get ahead of the crowd.’

Low transaction costs
Colruyt Group opted for the SEQR application by Swedish company Seamless. Michel Van Mello: ‘Not only is the app quick, dependable and safe, it can also be easily integrated into our cash register system without investing in additional hardware. Moreover, we appreciate the fact that Seamless has considerably lower transaction costs than other providers of payment solutions. This is important, because it helps Colruyt Group lower the costs and maintain its low prices.’

Seamless is also satisfied with the cooperation. ‘The fact that such a large player such as Colruyt Group chooses SEQR when they take the step to introduce mobile payments is a testimony to the proven added value SEQR has to offer both merchants and consumers.’ states Marcel Roelants, Country Manager SEQR, Belgium.
