CRDB Bank in Tanzania has launched a Visa/MasterCard – enabled prepaid card for the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) to reduce cash transactions at the referral hospital in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region.
The Visa/MasterCard dubbed Tembocard KCMC card launched in Moshi are aimed at streamlining payments made by patients to further optimize revenues for the hospital.
CRDB Bank Managing Director, Dr Charles Kimei said the bank was keen on growing its presence across the country while leveraging innovation that will not only drive the uptake of banking services among the target customers, but also provide solutions that simplify life.
Dr Kimei said the launch of the TemboCard KCMC Card would simplify payments and enable KCMC hospital to manage costs related to cash transactions.
Receiving cash payments at a busy hospital like KCMC is not only difficult but also has great challenges including possible misappropriation, fake currency and a high cost of management,” said Dr Kimei.
According to Dr Kimei, the use of TemboCard prepaid cards will significantly reduce the number of cash transactions at the hospital, considering that more than 50 per cent of daily transactions at the hospital are cash-based.
Using Tembocard KCMC card, patients will settle payments at the hospital’s Point of Sale terminals and obtain transaction receipts fast and easy,” Dr Kimei said. He maintained that CRDB Bank was keen on enhancing security of the customers’ money and has integrated systems to reconcile any transactions in real-time.
Similarly, the bank has adopted the chip technology in banking cards therefore making the CRDB Bank Tembocards most secure.
The confidence we have built in our services and especially the TemboCard brand has enabled us pursue international partnerships with the world’s leading international payment platforms such as Visa and MasterCard,” he said.
As of today, we are the only bank in Africa that has been allowed to co-brand with these two multinationals.” The Tembocard KCMC Card can be loaded at any CRDB Bank Branch, using Mobile Money Services such as Airtel Money, Tigo Pesa and M-Pesa or via a direct transfer from a CRDB Bank account using the Simbanking platform. Additionally, one can also top the card up at any Fahari Huduma agent countrywide.
The launch of Tembocard KCMC card comes as an addition to two other prepaid cards launched by CRDB Bank over the past couple of years, including Tembocard TANAPA – a card aimed at streamlining park entrance collections and Tembocard TRA, for tax remittance.
Over the last couple of years, CRDB Bank has upped its ante on driving financial inclusion in Tanzania and has embarked on an aggressive sensitization campaign aided by innovative products that are continuously driving uptake of financial services across the country.
Through the Visa and MasterCard Tembocards, CRDB bank now has over 5 million users who can access the over 30 million outlets globally using the two international platforms.
Locally, CRDB Bank boasts of a large network of over 300 ATMs, 100 plus branches and close to a thousand Point of Sales (POS) terminals within Tanzania and Burundi.
