Ericsson and Mastercard have announced a collaboration aimed at reshaping how money moves across the world.
By integrating the Ericsson Fintech Platform (Mobile Financial Services) with Mastercard Move — Mastercard’s portfolio of money movement solutions — the collaboration will enable telecom service providers, banks, and fintechs to expand digital wallet capabilities, introduce new payment services, and reach unbanked or underbanked communities more effectively.
The integration combines Ericsson’s robust fintech infrastructure with Mastercard’s global network for money movement. Ericsson’s pre-integrated application programming interfaces (APIs), cloud-native deployment model, and compliance-ready architecture simplify connectivity to Mastercard Move. This reduces the technical burden typically associated with launching and scaling payment services, particularly in markets where regulatory requirements and infrastructure constraints can slow innovation.
By lowering integration complexity and streamlining deployment processes, the collaboration reduces operational barriers for fintech providers and telecom operators alike. Compliance requirements are embedded within the infrastructure, enabling providers to focus on product innovation rather than backend challenges. As a result, new payment services can be launched more quickly, accelerating time-to-market and enabling faster revenue generation.
The Ericsson-Mastercard collaboration is designed to transform how financial services are built, delivered, and scaled. It creates opportunities for ecosystem players to introduce cross-border payments, domestic transfers, remittances, and enhanced wallet functionality without rebuilding their core systems. For telecom operators, this means expanding beyond traditional mobile money offerings into broader financial services. For banks and fintechs, it means accessing new customer segments through mobile-first channels.
Financial inclusion and accessibility remain central to the collaboration’s objectives. Mastercard Move enables money movement across more than 200 countries and territories, connecting over 17 billion endpoints and supporting transactions in 150 currencies. This global reach allows service providers to facilitate seamless cross-border transfers, enabling individuals and businesses to send and receive funds quickly, securely, and transparently.
Ericsson’s fintech platform already operates in 22 countries and serves more than 120 million active users. It processes over four billion transactions every month across digital wallets, payments, remittances, lending, and loyalty services. The platform is built on enterprise-grade security standards, ensuring reliability and trust across high-volume transaction environments.
By embedding Mastercard Move into Ericsson’s Fintech Platform, the collaboration aims to accelerate digital payment adoption and broaden participation in the digital economy. It allows providers to extend wallet interoperability, support international remittances, and integrate new transfer capabilities without extensive redevelopment. The global rollout will begin in the Middle East and Africa, where demand for mobile money, remittances, and interoperable payment services continues to grow rapidly.
Pratik Khowala, Global Head of Transfer Solutions at Mastercard, says: “Mastercard Move empowers payment service providers to shape the future of money movement by delivering fast, secure, and transparent transfers for individuals and businesses worldwide. By integrating with Ericsson’s fintech platform, we’re opening new pathways for telecom operators, financial institutions, and fintechs to scale innovative payment services, reach underserved communities, and unlock fresh revenue streams. This collaboration not only meets rising demand for digital cross-border payments but also accelerates progress toward a more connected and inclusive global digital economy.”
Pavan Bachwal, Head of Mobile Financial Services at Ericsson, adds: “Joining forces with Mastercard marks a bold step toward the future of money movement. Combining Ericsson’s trusted and scalable platform with Mastercard Move enables our customers to launch secure and efficient payment solutions faster than ever before. Together, we are driving financial inclusion, accelerating innovation, and creating new growth opportunities across emerging and developed markets alike.”
Through this collaboration, Ericsson and Mastercard are positioning themselves at the forefront of the next phase of digital finance, where interoperability, speed, and accessibility define the future of global money movement.
Together, they are redefining the future of global payments.
