Flutterwave Partners with Turnkey to Power Secure Stablecoin Wallets for Customers

Flutterwave, Africa’s leading payments technology company, is launching stablecoin balances for its merchants and users across all its offerings.

The move marks a significant step in Flutterwave’s broader vision to make stablecoins a foundational pillar of Africa’s financial ecosystem, supporting faster, more affordable, and globally connected payments.

The launch is being enabled through Flutterwave’s collaboration with Nuvion and Turnkey, which together provide a secure, flexible, and verifiable stablecoin balance infrastructure. By embedding stablecoin capabilities directly into its platform, Flutterwave aims to position stablecoins as a core backbone for the next wave of financial transformation across the continent.

“To accelerate business growth in Africa, we must make it safe, easy, and affordable for businesses to accept all forms of regulated payment methods, including stablecoin, from a global customer base,” said Nkem Abuah, Lead, GEPP ROW, Remittances & Stablecoin Partnerships at Flutterwave. “By enabling stablecoin balances powered by Turnkey, we are ensuring that multinationals, African enterprises, and individuals using Flutterwave will have access to low-cost, faster, and always-on cross-border payments with stablecoins.”

Providing embedded wallets for merchants

Through this integration, Flutterwave is delivering an embedded wallet experience that allows merchants and users to transact seamlessly using stablecoins within the Flutterwave platform. The infrastructure is powered by Turnkey’s blockchain wallet technology and supported by Nuvion’s AI-powered global banking and payments platform, which operates across both fiat and stablecoin rails.

The embedded wallet functionality allows their customers to hold, receive, and manage stablecoin balances alongside existing fiat currency balances. This reduces reliance on external wallets or intermediaries, while maintaining high standards of security, transparency, and compliance.

The solution is currently being tested with a select group of merchants to ensure performance, reliability, and operational readiness. Following successful testing, USDC and USDT balances will be made available to all approved company’s users, alongside existing balances such as USD, NGN, and other supported currencies, subject to the completion of required KYC and onboarding processes.

Enabling efficient cross-border payments

Stablecoins have increasingly gained traction as a tool for cross-border payments, particularly in markets where traditional settlement processes are slow, costly, or fragmented. By integrating stablecoin balances directly into its platform, Flutterwave enables businesses to move value across borders more efficiently, with reduced settlement times and lower transaction costs.

For African businesses operating globally, this capability supports improved cash flow management and provides greater certainty when transacting with international partners, customers, and suppliers. For individuals and enterprises alike, stablecoin balances offer an always-on payment option that operates independently of local banking hours and constraints.

“Flutterwave has shown the transformative potential of stablecoins in helping people start and grow businesses globally,” said Bryce Ferguson, CEO and co-founder of Turnkey. “We share Flutterwave’s belief that stablecoins offer an incredibly efficient way to accelerate payments and put more money directly into the hands of business owners rather than intermediaries. Through Turnkey’s embedded wallet infrastructure, we’re proud to power Flutterwave’s stablecoin payments and support their mission to empower the next generation of African innovators.”

Powering secure, verifiable infrastructure

The company joins a growing group of payments, DeFi, and trading platforms using Turnkey’s verifiable blockchain infrastructure for embedded wallets, transaction automation, and provable security. Other companies leveraging Turnkey’s technology include Polymarket, Axiom, Alchemy, World, and Moonshot.

Over the past year, Turnkey has been recognised as one of the 2025 CNBC World’s Top Fintech Companies and has introduced several new capabilities, including the launch of Turnkey Verifiable Cloud in private beta. This offering brings provable security to highly sensitive workloads and builds on earlier innovations such as verifiable wallets, fiat on-ramp integrations, and the open-sourcing of QuorumOS.

With this partnership, Flutterwave reinforces its commitment to building secure, scalable infrastructure for next-generation digital payments in Africa. By enabling stablecoin balances at scale, the company aims to help businesses and consumers transact more efficiently, streamline cross-border payments, and unlock new financial opportunities across the continent.

Correction: While an earlier version of this release suggested a phased rollout, this has been updated to clarify that, following successful testing, all approved Flutterwave users will receive immediate access to the solution.
