Four Pillars of the Payments Future

With Greece sinking and the global economy slowing, attention is shifting to new emerging consumer markets of the future, says Mike Lee, ATMIA’s CEO and a futurist. ATMIA’s 2015 Conference and Expo, “Customer experience and channel usage in Africa’s emerging payment and consumer markets”, will look into four pillars of the payments future in the region, namely:

  • Innovation
  • Consumption
  • Competition
  • Regulation

ATMIA, the only global trade association for the ATM, itself evolving into the 21st Century payments hub of choice for consumers, has brought together a range of highly qualified speakers and experts, as well as cutting edge technology on exhibition. The annual event is the 11th of its kind and takes place on 17-18th September 2015 at the Misty Hills Country Hotel Conference Centre & Spa in Gauteng, South Africa. With the participation of Payments Afrika, and other notable industry groups, organisations and companies, the conference will outline the current and future potential of the region for payments innovation.

The conference line-up is full of case studies and forward-looking assessments of where payments are going, whether bitcoin or money transfers, and the vital role cash and ATM transactions, including cardless programmes, will play long into the future.

“If you want to know what would happen to cash demand and the ATM if the global economy tanks again, just look at the recent queues of people at ATMs in Greece!” Lee concluded. “Being at our conference in September is an investment in the future of payments in our region.”
