GCB Bank PLC, Ghana’s largest Bank by branch network, has increased its branch network to 186 by opening a new branch at the Tamale campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) in the Northern Region.
Like many others established over the last few years, the new UDS branch emphasises GCB Bank’s commitment to bringing first-class banking solutions to its customers’ doorsteps.
Addressing stakeholders at the opening ceremony, the Executive Head of Retail Banking, John Adamah, described the new branch as a confirmation of the symbiotic relationship between UDS Credit Union and the Bank. He also registered his delight at the opportunity that students will have, via the UDS Branch, to access GCB Bank’s unrivalled network of 186 branches and unique customer-focused solutions across all regions in the country.
Mr. Adamah disclosed that the new establishment aims to support the university community and clients through specialised scheme loans and overdrafts. He also stressed that Bank’s continuous agenda to deploy technology for customer satisfaction, revealing that Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) can access various loans to expand their business and also deploy Visa Business Prepaid Cards to facilitate their financial transactions.
He also assured the UDS community that their deposits are safe despite the recent unrest in the financial sector.
“Bank deposits, savings, current and fixed deposits are liabilities against the Bank and therefore do not constitute the government debt to be restructured under the domestic exchange debt programme. This position means that depositors of clients can demand payment of their deposit irrespective of time or the amount”.
Mr. Adamah emphasized GCB’s track record and resilience over the past 70 years and encouraged all existing and potential clients of GCB Bank to use the Bank’s services for greater convenience and accelerated business growth.
“In 2017 for example, GCB exhibited its resilience when it assumed two banks to save deposits, jobs, and livelihoods” – he emphasized.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Seidu Al-Hassan, commended GCB Bank for the facility’s opening, which coincides with the institution’s thirtieth anniversary and its agenda to enable enterprises.
“The UDS Branch has come at the right time because the University has an ever-increasing student population of about 25,000 and a staff population of about 2,000. Beyond academics, UDS seeks to train and equip entrepreneurs, and we hope this new branch complements the Business Incubation Centre at the School”.
Professor Al-Hassan lauded GCB Bank for its patience throughout the development process. He also expressed his hopes that the Bank and UDS’s shared vision to create people-centred solutions will allow their partnership to adapt and thrive in all situations.
The Chief of Sagnarigu, His Excellency, Saanarinaa Abudulai Yakubu welcomed GCB Bank on behalf of his people. He encouraged the locals to embrace the habit of savings and take advantage of the Bank’s loan schemes to expand their businesses.
For his part, the Northern Regional Minister, Honourable Shani Alhassan Shaibu, commended GCB Bank for its growing presence in the region and the opportunity it offers the youth.
He encouraged the Bank to deliver the quality service that has defined its legacy and leadership and urged the UDS Community to support the Bank in equal measure.
