Orient Bank Uganda Limited and UnionPay International have announced recently that UnionPay Cards are now accepted at all ATMs and POS terminals of Orient Bank in Uganda. Orient Bank is one of the leading and fastest growing banks in Uganda and currently has more than 25 ATMs and 200+ Points of Sale in Uganda.
Announcing the partnership in Kampala today, Julius Kakeeto, Orient Bank MD/CEO said, “This is yet another demonstration of our commitment to anticipate and meet our customer needs through technology, innovation and partnership. Uganda and China enjoy a robust trading relationship which relies greatly on each country’s integration into the global financial system if ease doing of business is to be attained”.
UnionPay International is accelerating the promotion of digitized payments in East Africa. Today, UnionPay has over 80% acceptance on ATMs in Uganda and over 85% acceptance on POS terminals.
General Manager of UnionPay International Africa, Mr. Zhang Luping said, “We are glad to partner with a market leader as Orient Bank in improving UnionPay’s acceptance environment in Uganda. This collaboration will bring better payment
experiences to UnionPay cardholders visiting this country and lay a solid foundation for the two sides’ future partnership in fields of payment innovation and card issuance.”
This partnership will further boost trade between Uganda and China as visitors from China will be able to process payments at Orient bank ATMs and Point of Sale terminals across various merchants.
