Ovidio Egido Appointed as Country Manager for MasterCard in Spain

With almost 20 years of experience in the payment media and finance industry Ovidio Egido has been appointed as Country Manager for MasterCard in Spain.

Egido has been with MasterCard since 2012 when he joined as Senior Business Leader for the country. For those two years he was responsible for the business expansion and for the main innovative projects of MasterCard Spain, especially solutions in mobile, digital wallets and contactless. In addition Egido was responsible of the extension in the prepaid cards segment and for management of customers such as Carrefour, Cepsa, El Corte Inglés, Repsol, Mango and others.

Prior to his arrival to MasterCard Egido worked for three years as independent consultant in payment media for companies such as Telefonica, Payment System Europe and 3V Transactional Services. With an extensive international background, Egido has always been professionally linked to the financial sector holding various senior positions, including general manager for PayZone in Spain, one of the largest networks of prepaid acceptance in Europe, and commercial and marketing director at First Data.

From his new position Ovidio will foster the growing strategy of the company in Spain, will extend the innovation and technology that the company develops for its partners, retailers and consumers, and will support the creation and consolidation of alliances with the main players of the financial and payments sector.

Promote the innovation, the creation of products and payments solutions to answer new needs of consumers, industry and financial institutions, as well as the increase of electronic and digital payments developments in our country will be the main tasks that Egido will support from his new role as Country Manager. Ovidio will work with the objective of making grow the business of MasterCard and increase the market share of the company in Spain.

“We are living a key moment at the payments space, not just due to the continuous innovations in technology that the market is facing, but also because of the changes in the consumers habits and the MasterCard partners in the country”, stated Egido. “Our efforts will focus in the development and implementation of innovative payment solutions conformed to this new reality. Egido relieves Pilar Aurrecoechea, who after two years as general manager of the company in Iberia, in October 2013 started a new professional career.
