Stitch Express, the payments solution built for growing South African businesses, today announced the launch of Express In-person payments, bringing in-person card and alternative payment acceptance to retail merchants with physical locations.
As part of this launch, Stitch is the first payments provider in South Africa to offer a fully integrated Shopify POS solution, allowing Shopify merchants to manage all online and in-person payments in one place and sync them seamlessly with their Shopify store.
Express POS is already live with several merchants across South Africa, including Curve Gear, Sealand, Ciovita, Reef Surf Shop and more.
“What sets Stitch apart is their genuine commitment to listening. They take the time to understand the pain points we raise, then translate that feedback into practical solutions, like the Shopify POS integration, which we are currently testing and expect will make a real difference to how we operate. It’s this responsiveness that keeps them well ahead of anyone else in the market.”
– Jacques Dalziel, COO/CFO, Burnt Studios
Standalone POS and Shopify POS through one platform
Express POS is available in three configurations:
- a standalone card terminal that operates independently of any POS system — ideal for businesses that want a reliable payment device without integration complexity.
- a Shopify POS integration that connects the payment terminal directly to a merchant’s Shopify store, so orders, payments and fulfilment all flow through Shopify automatically. When a customer pays, their order is marked as paid instantly, with no manual reconciliation between a separate payments device and orders system.
- Our API allows merchants leveraging custom built POS solutions to access terminal sessions over API
All options support card payments (tap, insert and swipe), as well as digital wallets including Apple Pay and Google Pay and Pay Later, available at checkout via QR code. All transactions — online and in-person — are visible in a single Stitch Express dashboard.
Express In-person payments also allows for automated refunds returned to the same method used for pay-ins, including direct refunds from Shopify POS, cardless refunds and refunds to Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Enterprise-grade payments, built for businesses of all sizes
Express In-person payments is powered by the same trusted Stitch platform that processes omnichannel payments for some of South Africa’s largest merchants, including Bash, Sani, SIXT, Babylonstoren and many more. Retail businesses of any size now get access to the same reliability, uptime and payment infrastructure, without enterprise complexity or pricing.
Stitch certifies compatible devices and offers flexible acquisition options, including rent-to-own and outright purchase, for select vetted hardware. This means merchants can get set up quickly with confidence that their terminal is fully supported.
Alternative payment methods at the counter
Beyond standard card acceptance, Express In-person payments gives customers more ways to pay in-store. Shoppers can scan a QR code at checkout to pay using Apple Pay, Google Pay and Pay Later, which is an integrated solution directly linked to the item purchased at till. To pay with Pay Later, the customer scans a QR code that opens a Pay Later transaction already connected to the exact in-store order and items. They complete the payment without searching for the purchase in a separate dashboard, while merchants get paid in full with zero credit risk.
“Stitch Express was built to give every South African business access to the same quality payments infrastructure as the largest enterprise retailers, purpose-built for their needs. With Express In-person payments, we’re extending that to point of sale. A merchant can now run their online and physical store through one platform, with the payment methods their customers want to use, including Pay Later and mobile wallets at the counter.”
- Junaid Dadan, Co-founder and President, Stitch
“We built Curve Gear on Shopify, and being able to sync our in-store and online payments seamlessly has been a game-changer. We don’t lose visibility when a sale happens in the shop. It’s been great working with the Stitch team to get this up and running smoothly.”
- Neill Kropman, Head of Retail, Ops, Brand and Marketing, Curve Gear
