Turning on Retail – In store Mobile Technology Activation

The world of retail came alive at the Cape Town based wiGroup offices with over 65 hospitality and retail organisations attending an interactive event that unpacked the future of the South African mobile transaction landscape.

wiGroup, together with Barrows, hosted an interactive event that “turned on” retail through mobile transacting combined with digital media.

Ten key players in the South African mobile transaction ecosystem gave interactive presentations that covered apps and services along with expertise and experiences in mobile transacting. These speakers were Peter Miller, Head of Retail for wiGroup; Ian Gourley, Chief Creative Officer for Barrows; Kobus Ehlers, Co-founder of Snapscan; Johan Moolman, Head of Mobile Payments for FNB Digital Banking; Annette Schipper, Innovation Manager for Dotnxt; Clayton Hayward, Director at Olamide; Kyle Oosthuizen, Head of Activations for Blue Robot; Laura Nel, Head of Communications and Public Affairs for Johnson & Johnson Consumer; Mike Meterlerkamp, Managing Director for Clandestine Insights and Khetha Mazibuko from Standard Bank.

The highlight of the event was a simulated Seamless Shopping experience, a shopper driven strategy that integrates innovative key technologies with mobile transacting and links the whole shopping experience, from pre-store to post-store.

The key success of the wiGroup Retail Day was the bringing together of South Africa’s top retailers and a number of the leading players in the fast-growing mobile transacting ecosystem in a learning and sharing environment. The opportunity for retailers to adopt the new technologies and put their customers at the centre of what they do is an exciting journey in taking mobile transacting forward in South Africa.
