Infobip, a global leader in cloud-based mobile messaging and payments solutions for enterprises and mobile operators, announced it has built a technical platform for enterprise USSD in the Republic of South Africa.
Comprising push USSD as well as mobile initiated options, enterprise USSD allows banks and financial institutions to increase security of internet banking transactions via USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data), a telecoms protocol which is also used for a number of different purposes.
“The viability of USSD in the financial industry has been proven time and again, due to its unique features that allow for the creation of security solutions, particularly in the authentication of financial transactions, where delivery of one time pins (OTP) to end-users is one of the pillars of security,” said Silvio Kutic, CEO of Infobip. “Such a convenient, reliable and affordable technology will always appeal to both enterprises and consumers.”
USSD is a communications channel that offers interactive capabilities supported by all kinds of mobile phones, from basic handsets, to flagship smartphones, and requires no mobile data connection. Thanks to its menu-driven features and easy on resources, USSD is predominantly used for m-banking and m-payments, as well as customer care, polling and info services.
Infobip’s enterprise solution rests on USSD coverage towards mobile network operators in the country and opens new business and communication opportunities in South Africa.
“USSD is very popular in South Africa and is seeing a sort of a renaissance as the preferred tool in m-banking,” adds Tony Doubell, MD Infobip South Africa. “The Infobip solution is a one-stop-shop for any company requiring mobile interaction via USSD.”
