MTN Ghana And Ecobank Expand Cardless ATM Services

Ghana’s leading telecommunications provider, Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN) and Ecobank, The Pan African Bank, have partnered to extend cardless ATM services to Ecobank ATMs across Ghana.

With this partnership, the more than two million MTN Mobile Money subscribers can now enjoy the convenience and ease of withdrawing money instantly from Ecobank ATMs anytime and from anywhere without a card.

The service can be accessed in all MTN branch offices, Ecobank and other partner bank branches and more than 8,000 other merchant points across the country.

To access the service, subscribers need to dial *511# on their phone and generate a token for the withdrawal. The token number is then used to withdraw the money at any Ecobank ATM in Ghana. Each token generated can only be used once.

In a statement issued in Accra, the Senior Manager for MTN Ghana Mobile Money, Eli Hini, said MTN was constantly finding new ways of delighting customers through their Bold New Digital strategy, and urged other banks to emulate this initiative to enrich the user experience of customers.

For his part, Mr Owureku Asare, Regional Manager, Cards and Electronic Banking, (Ghana & WAMZ), Ecobank, said the partnership with MTN to offer Mobile Money customers the opportunity to perform Cardless withdrawals from over 200

Ecobank ATMs in Ghana was to strategically make branchless banking a reality by activating multiple channels.

These channels, Mr Owureku said, included mobile phones, internet, Points of Sales (POS), ATMs and through Agents.

He said the branchless banking strategy would provide convenience that complemented the lifestyle needs of the Ghanaian. “Increasing access to banking services for Africans including the youth, under-banked and unbanked, with cheaper and more convenient financial services is at the heart of Ecobank’s strategy,” he added.

Ecobank is the latest partner bank to offer this service to MTN Mobile Money subscribers in Ghana.

Ecobank is a full-service bank providing wholesale, retail, investment and transaction banking services and products to governments, financial institutions, multinationals, international organizations, medium, small and micro businesses and individuals.

On the other hand, MTN Ghana is the market leader in the increasingly competitive mobile telecommunications industry in Ghana, offering subscribers a range of exciting options under Pay Monthly and Pay As You Go Services. MTN Ghana has committed itself to delivering reliable and innovative services that provide value for subscribers in Ghana’s telecommunications market.
