NBC Tanzania plans a number of new products to maintain profitability and secure its strong presence in the market, its new Chief Executive Officer has said.
Mr Edward Marks, NBC’s new Managing Director, told reporters in Dar es Salaam on Thursday that he would focus on system improvement and profitability to steer the bank to new heights in the competitive banking industry.
My two key priorities will be system improvement and profitability,” he said on his first meeting with the media. He said he had what it takes to steer NBC to high profitability and maintain its strong presence in the market.
He said he was also keen to introduce new innovations in the electronic market. “I’d like to see profit increases…I’ve track record and would like it.”
Mr Marks fills in the position that was being held by Mr Pius Tibazarwa on interim basis for seven months. Mr Marks is joining NBC from Barclays Egypt where he served as Managing Director since 2011.
He brings to NBC 27 years of banking experience, having worked in Barclays in various business functions, including cohead Structured Finance, head of Barclays Marine Finance and global head of Corporate Jets and Super Yachts.
Prior to that, he had served as Corporate Banking Director. He is credited for having led Barclays Egypt through a difficult operating environment.
Commenting, NBC Interim Chairman Dr Kassim Hussein said the breadth and wealth of expertise the new CEO would be bringing would help the bank to achieve further success and to build upon its more than 45 years of strong presence in Tanzania.
“We are pleased to welcome Ed to NBC and are confident that his breadth of financial services expertise will help us in executing our growth strategy in the market.”
“Over the period of 25 years, Edward has amassed a balanced experience including people management, operation, and resource management and is a skilled business and market developer with strong leadership and project management skills.”
