Standard Chartered Bank said yesterday its global network of employees and clients will create awareness about the United Nations’ programme ‘Global Goals for Sustainable Development’.
UN’s Global Goals is series of 17 ambitious goals that targets to end poverty, fight inequality, injustice and tackle climate change for everyone by 2030. The bank is proud to be one of the founding partners of ‘Project Everyone’, which aims to raise awareness of the Goals, reaching seven billion people in seven days.
The bank will use its 86,000 employees and millions of clients to spread the word about the Goals, the company said in a statement. In Tanzania, the bank has partnered with various key stakeholders including the media and telecoms to raise awareness about the UN global goals in Tanzania.
It partnered with the United Nations and held a joint launch event at the Uhuru Mchanganyiko Primary School in Dar es Salaam late last week whereby various activities touching on the global goals were carried out.
“The Global Goals offer a unique chance to collaborate with other world leading brands and organisations, putting into practice Goal 17 which aims to revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.
With stronger and closer links between government, civil society and the private sector, we can effect tangible and positive change.” Liz Lloyd, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bank in Tanzania said.
The Bank will also be challenging staff to undertake additional volunteering to support community investment programmes. Bank employees have already been supporting the Radio Everyone recordings and creating their own dance videos to celebrate the Goals.
Project Everyone founded by renowned filmmaker and founder of Comic Relief Richard Curtis for the United Nations aims to reach 7 billion people in 7 days since September 26, with news of the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Standard Chartered will be activating the campaign by utilising its branch network, online banking platforms, ATMs, paid media channels and social media channels to reach employees and clients across the world, it said.
“As a Bank, we often talk about the importance of being Here for good. This is not just a brand promise, it is an ethos that we try to live by every day,” Standard Chartered plc Chairman Sir John Peace said.
Richard Curtis said, “The Millennium Development Goals tackled extreme poverty across the world. The new Global Goals for Sustainable Development give us the opportunity to end it for good.”
