Opera Commerce, a fully-owned subsidiary of Opera Software, and Nazara Technologies, a leading mobile games developer and publisher, have come together to provide a secure and easy mobile payment solution for Opera Mini users. As a result of this partnership, Nazara will deploy the Opera Payment Exchange (OPX) to enable Opera Mini users in India, Africa, the Middle East and Europe to pay for mobile games directly through their monthly mobile bills or a prepaid balance.
Opera Mini is one of the world’s leading mobile browsers, with users on all mobile platforms. Opera’s browsers are also available for computers, TVs and connected devices. Opera has more than 300 million users all over the world.
Nazara is a leading mobile games developer and publisher focused on the large mobile consumer base in India, Middle East and Africa besides other global markets. In addition to developing a range of branded and original mobile games, Nazara operates unique services such as “Games Club” and also serves as an exclusive distributor for key game developers in various regions. Its customers include mobile carriers as well as handset manufacturers.
“Mobile gaming is witnessing tremendous growth, which is due to several ecosystem trends like the rise in mobile teledensity, easy access to mobile internet and the rise of a mobile gaming culture,” says Nitish Mittersain, Group CEO, Nazara Technologies. “Micropayments for games have always been a challenge from the customers’ point of view. With the Opera Payment Exchange, we’re able to simplify mobile payments and provide a safe and secure option to the large Opera Mini user base. We see this partnership as a significant step that will encourage online gaming on mobiles.”
OPX also helps publishers and content providers such as Nazara to maximize the potential of their existing billing connections with carriers, payment instrument providers and payment gateways. It does so by increasing conversions through merchandising intelligence based on transactions performed on their website, as well as through a trusted user experience.
“With high penetration of mobile subscribers, the availability of trustworthy mobile payments has immense potential in developing countries. We want to partner with more mobile content providers like Nazara to give the convenience of one-click purchasing to Opera Mini users,” adds Sameer Merchant, President, Opera Commerce.
